Stop Horsing Around!

Did you know that a horse called Gracie had to be cut free from a tree by a chainsaw! She was so curious and just had to stick her head between two trunks. A passer heard Gracie whinnying and went to get help. Gracie was safely removed from the tree with a few minor injuries. A few scratches on the face and ears and sadly a dislocated jaw. Now Gracie is healing happily and knows not to go sticking her head into tree.

Hit The Lights!

The music started and the curtains opened, Hit The Lights! The show had begun. I was backstage with my friend Kaia while the older kids were dancing. Sharyn Underwood had taught everyone their dances with some helpers and now we were presenting them for Wanganui. There were lots of different dances right up  until my first dance, Living your dream came up. We danced on but the lights were so bright you could not see anyone in the audience. I smiled most of the time but it was over in about 3 minutes! The interval came and we had a 15 minute break while I ate my pasta. Next we were up 1st! Shake a tail feather, my favorite dance. The lights came up and we danced. It was the most fun night I had and we got to do it again on Sunday!

P.S. Miss Whitwell sat next to my mum and dad on the first night!

Hunterville Cross Country

On Friday morning on the starting line I'm having such a freak out! This was the day of the Hunterville  Cross country which is held every year and the beautiful green grass hills are used for running. My race was very long and I couldn't stop puffing! We had to run along the road, up the steep hill, over gates and fences and last of all down the muddy track. I finished with a really good place,18th with Georgina just ahead of me at 16th. All of the other competitors in Fordell got outstanding places and ran amazing races. After all the races Amelia shouted me an ice-block to cool off.

P.S. We even got a 3rd,5th and 8th place by Lauren, Tineisha and Joe in their races!

Netball Poem

There are 7 players in each team,
All of them,
SO busy,
running,
dodging,
stepping,
shooting goals.
We play on
Saturday mornings,
But we practice
At school
On Thursday.
Our team
is great !
We listen to
the umpire
and don't mind
how puffed we get
Because that's all part
of being FIT!

My Alien

Today NASA received information that there are life forms on Jupiter. Rebekah.P, space explorer, reported back via satellite that she had found a new life form.
This life is reported as being a small but very fat alien. It's covering appear quite pink with sapphire polka dots. This alien is very cuddly and fury with one giant eye and positioned like a normal human being, 2 arms and 2 legs. It is very harmless and even has it's own language, in a very deep voice according to Rebekah, she said it was like "Meep, Meep!". When sighted its short stubby legs spun round and round in circles and in seconds it had vanished. This alien has been unidentified but is becoming very familiar to Rebekah. It lives in a very tiny tunnel next to a giant pile of rocks. Rebekah has seen many other aliens with it and told us it  probably has  some friends. This alien is very mysterious with it's ebony, sharp antennae.

Mind blowing fact of the week!

Mangamahu Cross Country

On Friday 13th we thought it was all going to go wrong. Mangamahu were holding a cluster cross country and we think we won the shield! I can't remember what the orders of the races were but I know that the 10 year olds (that's my race) were second to last. Everyone ran such a great race and we had no injuries. In my race 3rd place was Tineisha 2nd place was Georgina and I came 1st! The day was really fun with baking at the shop for 50c, juicies for $1.00, sausages and hamburgers at $2.00 and a raffle for a $1.00 per ticket. What a day!

P.S. I actually think that Friday 13th is just a stupid saying!

The Netball Final!

"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" The whistle went, I passed to Lauren. The netball game had started! Ruapehu were in the final of the grade against us, Fordell A Netball team. I was playing C, Georgina was playing GD, Renee was playing GS, Bridgitte played GA, Lauren played WA, Allie played GK and Grace and Anna shared WD. Every quarter the game got tougher and tougher for both teams and goals were going in after each every minute. In the third quarter we were ahead by 2 or 3 points but the score was still close! In the last quarter the ball was getting down to the goal but an intercept from the defense would take the ball back to the center third. The whistle blew in the end, We Won!
Every one had a great game and afterwards we got lots of treats from our coach, Robyn.

Cross Country

On Tuesday afternoon Fordell school were very tired, sweaty and hot. It had been the Cross Country! First the year ones had their race, then the year twos, year threes, year fours, year fives, the preschool race was very cute, year six's, then the year sevens and last of all the year eights. My race was quite long because I am a year 6 so we did two small laps at the start, then one humongous big lap and then one last small lap. I started to get the stitch in my second lap but then it went away. I was tagging along behind Ryan who was just behind The fantastic... Georgina! Every time I looked behind me
A group of runners were slowly going into the distance. It wasn't until the last lap I sprinted past
Ryan and took 2nd place for the girls and overall. Every one had a great race and finished it with a
smile. Great running Fordell School! From Rebekah.

Butterflies, Flutterblies

Have you ever really paid attention to the most elegant creature in the world, The Butterfly? Well that's alright because this is my report on the Butterfly.

The Butterfly flaps it's wings up and down side to side. They have a strong muscle in their thorax for power. The Fast Flying Skippers can fly up to 30 miles per hour or faster. Slow flying butterflies fly up to 5 miles per hour or a little more. The Monarch Butterfly flies very far every year during it's annual migration.

Butterflies don't eat but they drink nectar and sip from small puddles. They also drink wet raindrops on leaves and plants. Butterflies don't necessarily sleep but they go into an inactive mode called Quiescence. In this mode they hang upside down but there eyes are always open because they don't have any eyelids.

Butterflies are all different colors but some main colors are Brown, blue, black, copper, orange, green, grey, white, yellow, red and purple. There are also many shapes and sizes.

   2 interesting facts!
The first butterfly fossils were found 40 to 50 years ago!
There are more than 20,000 species of b
   utterflies in the world!

Be Funky

Today M.s Whitwell showed us a new website called 'Be Funky' where you get a picture of yourself and customize it. We  had a turn to just mess around and have a play but then we had to get serious. Everyone in Room 2 made 4 photos and put them on publisher. We put our name on it and then Ta-da! We had our very own 'Andy Warhol' pictures.

P.S. You should check the site out. It's called Be Funky!

Andy Warhol by Jack Mitchell.jpg

Andy Warhol was an American artist who had a passion of getting any photo (especially pop artists) and recreated the photo to something amazing. His art inspired a lot of people from back then to now.

Fascinating Fact Of The Week

If you don't know this, you might want to listen.

Cows kill more people than sharks! Amazing right? About 10 humans are killed by sharks every year but nearly 100 people die each year from being stepped on by cows.

Tawa Take The Lead!

Another house challenge and Tawa won again? That can't possibly be true! Well it is, and this is there fourth victory! The house challenge was very competitive and needed a lot of good effort. Each house had to choose either a school singing song or just any song.

  • Tawa chose 'The Time Warp' off the rocky horror show
  • Miro chose 'Hey Baby'
  • Kowhai chose 'We Will Rock You'
Every house did outstanding but Tawa had just a little bit more!

Tineisha's Birthday Party

Last Saturday it was Tineisha's 10th birthday party. It was at her house and there were a lot of people there. For presents we sat in a circle and went around giving her the present . I got her  some coloring felt tips, a coloring book and some lollies. She got so many presents from everyone else I can't even list them! She did also get an ipad, a puzzle, some perfume and cantebury pants and a purple sweat shirt. I think she is super lucky! We played some games and watched a movie called 'Bring It On' . I was very thrilled that I was invited!

Happy Birthday Tesh!

The Museum Trip

This term we are learning about flight.Today we went to the museum and looked at all the birds feathers, bones and structure. We arrived and went in with Mrs. Beautrais to the back room. She showed us the different stands with a variety of birds. One stand had birds that can not fly, another had fast flying birds, the other had acrobatic birds, there was  also a bird bone stand. They were very interesting, so after, we did a sheet with all of the knowledge we knew . There were 7 questions that we had to answer. I worked with Tineisha and we were done pretty fast! In the end we went to the bug room and looked at all the fascinating bugs. There were butterflies, beetles, bees, and lots of other amazing bugs. The whole experience was super interesting and fun And I hope we can come again.

P.S. We handed in our family treasures booklet and they are awesome!

Anzac Quizzes

Lately Room 2 have been learning about the Anzacs and doing some quiz's. Well now after the boring stuff, we get to make our own quizzes using the information we have learnt! The quizzes have to have 6 questions and 6 answers to be completed. Next you have to design a title and color the middle picture area. Last you laminate it and then it's ready to test! The circuit board is connected  to wires to match to the questions and answers. If you get it right the mini light bulb will light up brightly or the fan will blow vigorously.
Some are quite tricky but other's just look stunning! I thought my quiz just looked amazing and was sort of hard. I am proud of mine and hope we do some more one day.

Happy Testing!

Flanders Field

This week we have learnt a lot about the Anzac's and the war of Gallipoli. This is a famous poem written by John Macrae while WW1.

Flanders Field
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place;and in the sky
The Larks, still bravely singing,fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch;be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

My Old Diary

This week in class we had to think of what it would be like 150 years ago and make it in to a diary. Half of us had to write on lined paper and the other half typed their diary on the computer. Here is my diary from 150 years ago:

 27th July 1862
Dear Diary

This is my life now; chores all day, dusty houses and cobwebs. Once a fast flowing stream now just a trickle. Summer, what a way to ruin my life. Oh when will it rain! My life is hard work. Even though I can play and sit in the meadow and listen to the birds chirping. It's just not the same. It is so hot, the land has dried up and has nothing to offer me.

Now by father has passed away, just a week ago in the land wars and Wanganui is the sight of a battle field. I imagine haunted spirits flying around me whenever I am near the fields. It sends sadness through my body. I know my father is still with me, somewhere in my heart, but it's a shame I couldn't say goodbye. I feel so angry and depressed. Losing my father is like losing air. You can't cope without it.

Wanganui will never be the same again for me. We all know that. Our friends and family are gone now. Miserable faces fill the area. I regret ever coming to this place and wish we had stayed in England.
